TV One: The Other Black Entertainment Channel
BET isn't the only Black Network. TV One is the new African American Station on tv! I heard about it a few months back and thought the website was quite impressive. Unfortunately the channel is not available on cablevision, so I have not been able to fully praise the station until today! I'm watching it in Florida, and let me tell you that I wish I had this channel in New York. I am currently watching "In The Mix" which is like a very Classy Black Entertainment Tonite. On the current episode they have interviewed Bernie Mac, Little Kim, Usher, and black media coverage of Hurricane Katrina (on tv one, bet, and the black family channel). In addition to this TV One Original show, the lineup is filled with old favorites like Amen, Goodtimes, and Martin. This Channel is the BET I have dreamed for. Black folks need to request both TV One and The Black Family Channel (another black television network) from their cable television providers.
As African American television viewers in need of more than BET and UPN sitcoms, we need to know there are more quality channels for us to watch. Robert Townsen created the Black Family Channel to give us more options. We need to support these stations and spread the one.
Here is a list of Black Networks and Media Sources that I'm sure is longer than most would expect. Don't be fooled, black folks are doing their thing. We just don't get enough props for it, like we should.
